Liian pientä onnea ei ole olemassa.
There is no too little happiness.
GARDEN OF MEMORIES
RITVA-LIISA POHJALAINEN ART GLASS EXHIBITION 30.5.-26.6.2015
Galleria G12, 15 Minna Canth Street, 70100 Kuopio
“Searching for beauty is a force that makes us go forward. This makes us find the way, manner of human activity that turns strong feelings into the form shaped by senses. The form is music. The form is movement. The form is materials, touches, reflections. Something that catches time or material. Something that leaves mark though it vanishes.”
Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen is a multifaceted artist and designer. Her art glass pieces, unique costumes and jewellery interact at the new exhibition.
The main motive throughout the exhibition is connection with the nature. Now that spring is almost here Ritva-Liisa recalls happy days of her childhood in her granny’s garden. The garden is full of sunshine, light, flowers, forest, water and the sky.
“Throughout our lives we pick flowers and give these to one another. Flowers bring joy and remind us of the time we have spent together. These make our eyes shine. In sorrow flowers solace and talk to us quietly, if we cannot find the right words. The flowers inside us represent peace, warmth and love. The beauty of flowers reflects goodness,” says Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen.
In the artist’s mindscape flowers grow into pieces of glass that are formed from melted mass with multiple shades and texture. The pieces of art reflect the sun, hot weather, blueness of the lake and the sky, trees and moss of the forest. The new forms were quite a challenge for the artist as well as for the glassblowers. Step by step by experimenting they succeeded with the tones, colour combinations and large shapes.
At the exhibition the buds burst into bloom and turn into giants in the garden of memories of Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen. Also the unique costumes and jewellery made earlier are connected with her works; these illustrate artist’s transition from one material to another.
Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen’s art glass, costumes and jewellery reflect timeless beauty. These have been created under the influence of northern nature and carry the artist’s values, respect for pure nature and joy of imagination. These have been made to give out light and beauty.
Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen’s works have been presented at many exhibitions in Finland and abroad and she has been given recognition as for example Kaj Franck design prize in 2004 and honorary doctorate of the university of Eastern Finland in 2010. This spring Business and Professional Women Finland awarded her Woman of the year 2015 special prize.
